Born in Duquesne, Pa. in 1939, I Joseph is a self-taught artist. Acquiring an interest in art at the age of six, he developed his unique artistic talents over the years. I Joseph works in all media. His first-choice medium is watercolor and sacred art is his preferred subject matter. His works have been shown at the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit in New York City, the Stockade Exhibit in Schenectady, NY, Red River Art Gallery in Atlanta, GA., Juxtapose Gallery in Westfield, NJ, and numerous shows in the Saratoga Springs, NY area, including the Soave Faire, Marina Petro, and Dayspring Galleries. In 1985, he was commissioned by the City of Schenectady, NY to do a watercolor of the historic sculpture of Lawrence the Indian. Lithographic repoductions of the painting were sold to raise funds for the renovation of the sculpture. The original painting is on permanent exhibit in the Schenectady City Hall. Lithograph No. 1 was presentd to the Mayor of Albany, NY and it is displayed in Albany's City Hall. In 1986, he was an exhibitor in the Cooperstown National and the Mohawk-Hudson Regional. In 1996 he was again selectd as an exhibitor in the Mohawk-Hudson Regional in the Schenectady Museum in Schenectady, NY. His works have received numerous awards. Some of his One-Artist Shows include: *The Virginia Handcrafts Gallery, Lynchburg, Va. *Jentre Art Gallery, Freehold, NJ *First Unitarian Society of Schenectady, Schenectady, NY *Legends Gallery, Saratoga Springs, NY *Schenectady Museum, Schenectady, NY Throughout the years, Quay Corporation of Eatontown, NJ, George D. Roessler, President, has purchased a number of I Joseph paintings. I Joseph's works have been shown at the North American Indian Art Foundation, which has galleries in Whittier, NC, Canada and Martha's Vineyard, MA. In 1996, I Joseph was commissioned by the great boxing trainer, Lou Duva, to paint the portraits of several members of his family. Mr. Duva is the boxing trainer of Evander Holyfield and Pernell Whittaker. In 1996-97, I Joseph's work was among a collection of fine paintings in a touring show, based on the historical great African queens and powerful African women. His entry was the painting of the Queen of Sheba. This touring exhibit was sponsored by Black Dimensions in Art of Schenectady, NY. In 1997, the Phoenix Home Life Insurance company began to showcase and purchase the works of both established and emerging artists, whose works are of museum quality. Two of I Joseph's pieceas are now in the Phoenix Home Life Art Collection. I Joseph is a member of the exclusive Oak Room Artists Gallery in Schenectady. Other notable galleries in which he has shown his works are Leighton Galleries Ltd., Schenectady, NY; Greenhut Galleries, Albany, NY; Albany Center for the Arts, Albany, NY; Visions Gallery Catholic Diocese Pastoral Center, Albany, NY; and Gallery of the Arts, Clifton Park, NY. He is presently exhibiting at the Morningside Gallery in Latham, NY, and the Bordentown Art Gallery in Bordentown, NJ. I Joseph pieces are also among the permanent collection of the Hamilton Hill Art Center, Schenectady, NY. I Joseph is a resident of Saratoga Springs, NY.
