MARIE GRAVEL PROFILE This Quebec artist obtained her artistic education from renowned masters at the "École des beaux-arts de Québec" from 1960 to 1964. After graduating in 1964, she worked as a graphic designer for two private TV stations in Quebec city while pursuing her own research in painting. Hereafter, wishing to explore other facets of her professional abilities, she illustrated quite a few children books and worked as a portraitist during important trials. She also taught drawing and painting in her own atelier for many years. She is now devoting herself to her personal work, her preferred medium being oil painting. ARTISTIC APPROACH Looking at this artist's paintings, you will be transported into scenes rich in human feelings in which you will find characters belonging to everyday life and sometimes out of a surreal and mythical world. These characters communicate their emotions, now and then with a touch of humour, following winter's chill or autumn's wind, spring's breeze or summer's warmth. A great precision in the drawing and a subtle choice of colours are fundamental to her technique and serve into transmitting a message as well as expressing a particular atmosphere. |
