Stained Glass Art Designed By Toni Rose

As a child I had no aspirations to become an artist of any kind. I wanted most to be Pocahontas, riding the plains bare back on a pinto pony, wearing a fringed rawhide dress with beading. Actually it was very frustrating as my hair was too short for braids. As reality set in, I found myself at a total loss but freedom was always a priority. I was always enchanted by shiny things, sequins, beads, glitter, it didn't take very long to discover glass fit my need for color and glistening light. Stained glass has been my passion since the 1970's, when I found a lamp I couldn't afford in an antique shop, so I went to school at the Museums At Stoneybrook, to learn to build my own. That took quite awhile but I fell in love with the art of stained glass. There are so many beautiful types of glass, I'm always anxious to work on the next project and I become compulsive in each phase of the work as it nears completion because no matter how well planned, each finished piece is a surprise! For many years my family ate glass as I worked feverishly in every corner of our home. I showed a lot and sold through boutiques, craft fairs and commissions, I found my freedom!
