Leonid Tomilin was born in Ukraine (Zaporozhye) in 1958. He has university education: artistic and graphic art faculty (Odessa) and architectural faculty (Dnepropetrovsk). He is a member of professional organization of the artists since 1992.

Since 1989 he took part in various exhibitions in Germany (Koeln, gallery “Nil”), France (Saint Just le Martel), Spain (Marbella), Austria, USA, Poland, Belgium, Iran, Japan and England. The last exhibitions:
- February 11-26, 2001 Exposition “Unknown Russia IV” in C.A.S.E. Museum of Contempopary Russian Art in Jersey City (USA);
-December 2001 II Biennial of contemporary Russian graphic and sculpture in C.A.S.E. Museum of Contemporary Russian Art in Jersey City (USA);
- March 12, 2002 Charity auction “Russia to America” in support of the 11th September terroristattack aftermath liquidation in Grant Gallery in New York (USA).

About 250 works are in private collections and galleries in Finland, Sweden, Germany, France, USA and other.

Nowadays Leonid Tomilin's drawings present the result of more than 25 year long experiments with the technique and materials (paper, graphite pencil). Conceptually, the aim was to combine academic achievements in drawing with the latest formal visual searches. Ascetic technique, it seems, reached the limit of its resources a long time ago - graphite pencil-paper finds as though a second wind in Leonid Tomilin's art pictures. The drawings for the greater part look like aquarelles by the lightness of perception and dexterity of rendering. At the end of XX century it seems to be impossible to find the own face in the fine art, the more in graphic art. Probably, the artist succeeded in it.
