| . Painting is a process of evolution. For me, this process is marked by constant change. True to form, this exhibition witnesses a departure in expression from the past. My work is inspired by the natural world, its beauty and its cruelty, its hostility and its hospitality, its paradoxes and its contrasts. When I look at a landscape there are shapes - and shapes within shapes. Some connect to others gently and gracefully, some seem to engage in a struggle with their surroundings. It is these relationships between shapes and colors that go into deciding the compositions. A painting is incomplete without a sense of intrigue, and my composition begins with the discovery of that intrigue. Style is a means of expression, never the intent. Colour is used to express natural elements such as heat, light and the energy of the whole landscape. Rather than recreating a landscape on a canvas, I aim to express its essence. With creation, progression happens in its own time but trusting this process allows quicker progress. My painting adorns the walls of many hoes and offices in India and abroad. They are affordable and a constant source of joy to the proud owners and viewers. |
| For me, painting is a learning experience that finds me constantly evolving, Style is not the point. Artists always change to find something new. When I look at a landscape there are shapes, and shapes within shapes. Some shapes connect to others gently and gracefully; some seem to engage in a struggle with their surroundings. I look at the possibilities for compositions that are created by the shapes and colors and their relationships to each other. I also try to find the most intriguing, and imagine how I might cultivate that intrigue by creating an image using that reference as a starting point. I use colour to express the heat and light, as well as the energy of the whole landscape. My work is inspired by the natural world, its beauty and its cruelty, its hostility and its hospitality, its paradoxes and its contrasts. Rather than recreating a landscape on a canvas, I aim to express its essence. With creation, progression happens in its own time but trusting this process allows quicker progress.
