BIOGRAPHY-ANTOINE FARRUGIA

Born in Mqabba Malta on the 22nd July 1969, Antoine Farrugia is a self-taught artist who is only influenced by the love of the medium and the symbolic energy he derives it to vent his deepest feelings.

The stillness and chastity of these sculptured forms may lead to an impression of cool calculation alien to his own rough -cut nature. Stillness and abstraction are hard-won out of mental and emotional struggle. In its quite security, this man of selected works, is the exploration of new forces released from within the stone.

At the same time the material with all its accidental elements does not dictate the form nor determine the final texture and substance. Organic, no less than geological suggestions, the final outcome is a result of thrusts and stresses of the internal structure. Whether in their natural soft texture or enclosed in their polished patina, material and form are in perfect equilibrium.
