About The Artist My name is Richard Frederick Barber, B A. SLC Hons, in Fine Arts. I was born in Windsor in the U.K. in 1942.From an early age I have had what has become my longest love affair, the love affair with art , both with viewing art and making art, it has lasted over 60 years from the time my father taught me to draw horses and has courted me ever since, my biggest inspiration is from artists like Da Vinci, with his enquiring and inventive mind, Peter Paul Rubens for his drama and love of light and colour, Auguste Dominique Ingres for his portrayal of the female anatomy and the Orientalist painters like Jean-Léon Gérôme who's paintings glow with the light that he has painted. For years I have shown my work in the U.K at lots of different venues and have worked in many different mediums but as I got older I find that oils are my favorite of all the mediums that I have used. I class myself as a realistic painter but not in the sense as to be ultra realistic, all of my art is original art. I also have no wish to be photographic, I feel that one should leave something for the viewers eyes and mind to interpret, the point where the viewer's eyes and mind take over and create their own mood and feelings in relation to the artwork. As each painting creates it's own mood, and a different meaning to different people. I paint landscape s, seascapes, figurative, nudes, portraits, and still life, sometimes I do some surrealist works. I have exhibited at the \"Mall Galleries\" in London, The Royal Academy of Fine Art, The Birmingham Fine Art Gallery, The Cutt Gallery , London The CRA in St Albans, and other small galleries in and around London. Some of my work can now be seen on Saatchi Online Gallery in London, www.artistbank.com, www.painterskeys.com and other online galleries.) I now live, in Anshan City, in the Northern Province of Liaoning China, I'm a member of the Shenyang & Liaoning Institute of Fine Arts and I have a studio in Anshan City where I now live, I'm also a Guild member of the Artrom Gallery Guild where I won membership with a landscape Painting "The Mundens" which took fist place in the International New landscape 2007 Competition. . In my art I try to make it a pleasant and enjoyable journey in to the inner mind for the viewer, leaving them in a pleasant and tranquil mood, as all art should be viewed and absorbed like a good book, one that makes the mind wander through it 's pages far away from the trials and tribulations of everyday life, into that other world. . My work is drawn from two cultures, one the culture of my birth, which is English, which is drawn from memories I have of my past and the second from the culture that I now live in, which is Chinese. I have made my home here in China, where I have lived since 2004 with my new Chinese Wife and family. The photo below is my new Studio in Anshan.
