 Born in 1968, Christoforos Giannakopoulos is an exceptional and unclassifiable figure in contemporary art. He gives full rein to the violent expressions of his inner feelings and to his deep-rooted belief that life, as we know it, can only have meaning in relation to the universe.
His first major collection "Abyssos" was inspired by the mystery of the unknown deep, the crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea and his love for his island. The combination of outstanding ability and present-day themes, speak to the individual imagination. His paintings unleash far more than they reveal and evoke a feeling of inescapable dynamism in every direction. He, deliberately, chooses for the opposite of the certainty of clear-cut forms with their predictable debates. That testifies of large visionary strength. Christoforos Giannakopoulos belongs, however, to the very few who can access this universe with their spirit and who can then also translate that understanding into into indelible pictures.
